Tipster 1.0 for Aldus PageMaker 5.0


Aldus PageMaker is an outstanding program that gives you an amazing amount 
of control over your publications.  Unfortunately, PageMaker is also very
complex and sometimes counterintuitive.  And that means almost no one learns 
PageMaker completely-- we all know how to use it to get from point A to 
point B, but not always by the most efficient path.  That's where Tipster 
comes into the picture.

Tipster normally resides on your desktop as an icon, where it waits for you
to start Aldus PageMaker 5.0.  When it sees PageMaker run, Tipster pops up
an electronic version of a "sticky note" with a PageMaker tip.  These tips 
include keyboard and mouse shortcuts, tips on the table editor, and some 
publishing trivia.

You can configure the colors and screen placement of the Tipster note, and 
you can quickly step through a series of PageMaker tips with your mouse (a
process we call "tip surfing"), which we've found can be a surprisingly 
effective way to generate new design ideas.

You can even copy the tip from the "sticky note" and paste it into other 
programs via the Windows clipboard.

To install Tipster, first make sure that your old copy, if you have one, 
is not running.  Then simply run the provided INSTALL.EXE program.  The 
installation program will copy the files to your hard disk and optionally 
add Tipster to your Program Manager Startup group, which is the easiest
way to use it.

We strongly recommend that you run the "Perform Self-Check..." item from
the main program menu the first time you run Tipster.  This will make the 
program check itself against tampering and data transmission errors.  If 
Tipster fails this test, you should stop using it and send it to us with 
a letter telling us where you received your copy.

Once Tipster is running, you can display a new tip by double clicking on 
the main program's icon or on the title bar of the tip window, by pressing 
the space bar when the tip is the active Windows window, or by selecting 
the "New Tip" item on the main program menu.
